„The best of the Sauvignons often come from GSTK „Grand Cru“ sites, such as the Wohlmuth Sauvignon Blanc Ried Edelschuh 2021 …, which impressed the most out of all the Steiermark wines we tasted with their length and focus.“
98/100 Falstaff points

Wine description: Ripe aromas and flavors, dense, finely woven, great spicy notes, minerally – with a huge life ahead
Location: Edelschuh: From this historical vineyard, which was already referred in 1322 as one of the best single vineyards, we get very mineral driven wines with outstanding ageing potential. Through the high sea altitude we are able to pick very ripe grapes, which still have a very good acidity structure. Through the extreme steepness of up to 90% we are just able to work by hand or with rope winch machines. The very meagre slate soil is very much reflected in the wines.
Soil: Red and blue-black slate (paleozoic slate)
Winemaking: Very late and selective hand-picked, short maceration time, gentle and slow pressing, spontaneous fermentation in 500 l casks. Ageing on the yeast for 18 months.
Altitude: 460-530m
Steepness: 73-90 %
Drinking temperature: 12 °C
Drinking description: Grilled stuffed calamari, Mussels au gratin, Gratinated eggplants, Vitello tonnato, Asparagus dishes
contains sulfites

Wine Classification: Riedenwein (Single Vineyard Wines)

These highly expressive wines give strong voice to the terroir of their specific Ried. As STK members, the Rieds are divided into Erste and Große STK Rieds. Wines from Erste STK Rieds must be matured for a minimum of 12 months in large wooden casks, while wines from Große STK Rieds must be granted at least 18 months. Singular wines of tremendous aging potential.
